It will take time and effort, but South Carolina has potential to be a purple state someday. Just passed Alabama for 23rd in the population rankings and an outside show of catching Minnesota for 22nd by the next census. All of that coastline is a magnet for Northerners. If you could encourage greater African-American in-migration, things could start getting interesting.

The northerners moving to South Carolina are solid upper middle class Americans looking to retire or are business owners who can work most of the year remotely. They move to South Carolina for the low taxes. They don’t have school age kids any more and their grandchildren live elsewhere. Probably on the conservative sides socially and economically. They aren’t racist or extremist conservatives but At this stage of their life they are indifferent or agnostic about social issues. They may be registered democrats only because they come from areas where the only contested elections are democratic primaries. It may become purple to the extent the democrats in South Carolina offer establishment Republicans policy positions. A old moderate is an independent or conservative Democrat now.

 

First they zap them, and without a wet sponge. Then, while their head is on fire, the firing squad comes out and puts them out of their misery.
