This song came up in a discussion about “Bad songs our parents loved” between me and my friends. Surely the only Top-40 song that ever featured a xylophone solo.

Actually, it's a marimba. Similar member of the percussion family.

    1) "How Long" – Ace (Lead singer: Paul Carrack, later one of the lead singers for Mike + The Mechanics)
    2) "Vehicle" – The Ides of March (Sounds like something from the Blood, Sweat & Tears cutting room floor)
    3) "City of New Orleans" – Arlo Guthrie (One of the few non-Eagles tracks people tried to cover in their living room with a guitar.)
    4) "You Light Up My Life" – Debby Boone (Could NOT get away from this one ... not a favorite, but just ... omnipresent.)
    5) "Ring My Bell" – Anita Ward (One of my regular overseers at the child care center LOVED this track. I've certainly heard worse.)

I may have shared this here before. I had an editor who had a standalone photo of a little boy and little girl playing on a swing set and she put the kicker "afternoon delight." She was mortified when she found out what it meant.

That was how I felt in my early 20's when I finally deciphered it although I had a smile on my face.
