Ragu is spot on here. Unless China throws open the doors for a full, transparent investigation of the lab theory, we’ll never know one way or the other.

The other sad truth in this is there are people with political reasons for needing this to be true who will continue to throw it out there and cloud any sense of the truth we can possibly discover. People waiting China to be the devil because of economic, political or straight up racist reasons.

But the facts are this: A virus could jump from animals and we need to be on guard. A virus could leak from a lab and we need to be on guard. If Covid has taught us anything it’s that the world can’t handle a deadly virus outbreak. Too many people who care more about their little comforts than doing what is necessary to contain it and want to blame others for the problem. Or simply want others to take the risks so they can continue to feel normal or because they can’t figure out how to adapt.

Yeah, you are missing something because of your need to make everything related to the virus into a Trump narrative.

It matters in the same way that what caused Chernobyl matters.

You have labs around the world manipulating deadly viruses and a lot of the work isn't done transparently to the rest of the world, nor are there any international controls or uniform safety standards with monitors. Just in terms of preventing what might be an even deadlier pandemic in the future if we can, we should all think it matters.

We have relatives who won't get vaccinated or have their children vaccinated. No masks, either.

But they do believe the virus is real.

Told them they can't come to a small family gathering later this month because even though everyone there will be vaccinated, there is one person who still is at risk.

I think a bridge has been burned and I'm the bad guy in their eyes. I don't care, try not being an idiot then.

Do they say what their objection to the vaccine is?

Bridges can be repaired in time. Can a person who ends up dead say the same?

Good move ... or, at the very least, I agree with your move. If they can't understand the value of erring on the side of caution, that's their problem.

They have three kids I worry about. Their church I think is a major factor here.

They say they've done "lots and lots" of research and aren't comfortable being vaccinated. They hope we "respect" their position.

No idea where their research comes from but suspect their church.

We told them we believe in the science and that it's safe for them and their children to be vaccinated.

Folks, this virus cannot be politicized, prayed or willed away. No matter what any Republican or member of clergy try to tell you.

(That, of course, goes under the "This really should go without saying" category.)

It's weird, they believe the virus is real and have sanitizer all over their house and use it constantly, but the vaccine isn't safe.

I mean what in the actual fuck. I am related to these people.

    Stunner, huh?

I had three fucksticks 'taking care' of my mother who refused to wear masks - I fired two of them and kept the yard guy on. At least he can't infect anyone.

That's how I feel about masks. Just wear the fuckin thing and don't complain to me about it in my house.
