She's throwing bottles, yeah I'm out with the taser. She could grab a bottle and its slash time.

If your dog is the size of a Vienna sausage, maybe don’t take it where the alligators are.

This is the line of logic that leads to black men getting shot all the time. “Well, he could have [insert hypothetical attack] …”

“Could have” almost never has actual basis in fact.

Why the hell are we allowing — encouraging, even — peace officers to use imaginary threats to justify shooting or tasing citizens. We’re putting citizens at the mercy of each officer’s own tolerance for fear. And, frankly, too many of them aren’t brave enough to be entrusted with that responsibility.

The woman wasn’t hurting anyone. She was destroying property. There was no imminent threat to the lives or safety of anyone there. A taser, while safer than a gun, can still cause death.

I suspect, as others have said, that he did it to avoid any potential sexual accusations. Unfortunately, we seem to be inferring that the only two options available to the officer were taser or physical restraint. No one has mentioned trying to de-escalate the situation.

Maybe no one has mentioned trying to de-escalate the situation because that is idiotic. She is clearly out of control and needs to be stopped. She isn't capable of reasoning at that moment. Get the situation under control, get the behavior stopped and then try to calm her down. God forbid she or someone else gets hurt while the officer is trying to reason with her, then you'd be upset that he didn't act. I guess property damage is OK to you as long as it isn't your property.

If he paid with a card, I'm certain they could figure out whom to arrest. (And now I know why bagels have holes.)
