    My two favs:

“Child is born with a heart of gold” (That’s the Way of the World )

“Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then” (Night Moves)

When I try to sleep at night
I can only dream in red
The outside world is black and white
    With only one colour dead

    --Biko, by Peter Gabriel.

Spare, but deep and moving. I didn't know anything about apartheid til I heard that song.

Pete has been so good for so long ... and above is one of his best efforts.

The EWF lyric from qtlaw is also excellent. That band ... the musicianship ... Maurice White's message perfectly conveyed ... the lyrics ... the ability to be so musically strong that the lyrics can take a break ...

Too many thoughts about this thread, but we'll see how this evolves.

    A girl starts walking
    Guys start gawking
Sits down next to you and starts talking
Says she wants to dance 'cause she likes to groove
So come on fatso and just bust a move

If I'm not really careful, there could be top-five lists for Genesis, Genesis-related, Rush, Pink Floyd, EWF, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, etc. ...

Now ... when we're doing lists for Chuck Mangione and John Williams, maybe it's time to worry.

Well, I fought with a stranger and I met myself
I opened my mouth and I heard myself
It can get pretty lonely when you show yourself
Guess, I could've made it easier on myself
But I, I could never follow
No I, I could never follow
Well, I never seem to do it like anybody else
Maybe someday, someday I'm gonna settle down
If you ever want to find me I can still be found
    Takin' the long way
