Has anyone else read "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" by Isabel Wilkerson? I've started to see things through that lens and it makes absolute sense to me, especially as to why some visible minorities may not receive the same level of prejudice directed at them.

I know this is the "Running Racism in America" thread but Canada is having its own horror show. We have a horrific history with our aboriginal people which culminated in Residential Schools, an attempt at genocide by forcibly removing native children from their families and sending them to church and state run boarding schools, the stated purpose of these schools being "“I want to get rid of the Indian problem. I do not think as a matter of fact, that the country ought to continuously protect a class of people who are able to stand alone. . . . Our objective is to continue until there is not a single Indian in Canada that has not been absorbed into the body politic and there is no Indian question, and no Indian Department, that is the whole object of this Bill.” “Until There Is Not a Single Indian in Canada”

A few weeks ago 217 unmarked graves were found at a former residential school in British Columbia and today it was announced that 751 had been found at a former residential school in Saskatchewan. It is now estimated that at least 6,000 students died in the residential schools, mostly from tuberculosis and other diseases. Most parents never knew that their child had perished. Sexual and physical abuse was rampant as well.

I think I've mentioned before that several of my siblings are First Nations Canadians and the thought of how easily they could have been one of those children terrifies me. Who the fuck builds schools with cemeteries??? Apparently, we did.

It's probably more like "Asians and Hispanics are mud people too, and we don't much like them, but we have not learned to hate them virulently from early childhood so we're less likely to go after them full on the way we do n-s."

I'm wondering how long Chauvin lasts behind bars, unless the COs (many of them wannabe cops) feel some sort of kinship and try and protect him.

There are still assholes who think George Floyd od'd on Fentenyl. They say he swallowed the drugs because he didn't want to be changed with possession. That never happens. Nobody ever does that.
