$820. That's what a gold medal is worth. The practices. In some cases, the years of dealing with abusive coaches and trainers. And don't forget all the "support" from fans and commentators when you suddenly don't live up to their expectations. The Olympics were meant originally to bring people together, warring nations, particularly their youth, with the idea that doing so would make it harder to go to war with people you had some personal experience with. Now its just another way to divide us up into "us" and "them."

The popular conservative Twitter take is to compare Biles to Kerri Strug and how Biles is weak and Strug was strong for her performance in 96 in Atlanta. Can't really put my finger on what the biggest difference between Biles and Strug is.

Can you be a compassionate, bleeding-heart liberal and still think an adult who volunteered to represent their country at the Olympics and was chosen over other competitors should be expected to follow through with the competition unless physically unable to?

To workshop this a bit more, I guess what we’re learning here is that we need to measure the mental fitness as well as physical fitness of athletes before we name them to national teams.

USA gymnastics failed Biles by not supporting and protecting her mental health, and it failed the USA by sending her to Tokyo. Let’s hope this situation marks a turning point in making mental health equal to physical health in importance when judging athletes strengths.

What are the odds someone in Charlie Kirk's family is, or was, in a mental hospital?

Biles has nothing to prove. She doesn't owe ANYBODY.
Yo. The team medal was clinched before Strug vaulted.

    Also, she's Jewish.

Makes me laugh that people who wouldn't wear masks or take a vaccination shot are calling anyone out for "letting America down."

It was, but that was only known in retrospect.
