With most of the announcers being elsewhere, they have little access to the athletes and are not able to pick up little snippets to inject into their broadcast. Thus, the few things they know -- that they got (or were handed) before the Opening Ceremony -- they say over and over again each time these athletes compete. If you saw 7 April&Alix matches, you heard the same things 7 times. Mom breast cancer, felt down and out, had to adjust my attitude. Wanted to be an indoor Olympian, didn't make it, went to the beach, made it. YAY!!
Announcers need to be at the venue. I see it game after game with the Angels. The voices are in Anaheim calling a game from Texas off TV. They miss stuff that I see.

As fucked up as they are at times, I love the Olympics and I'm always sad when they're over.

The end of that women's 10,000 meters was epic

It's always a letdown at 7 a.m. on the Monday after the Closing Ceremonies, wondering why you can't watch live whitewater kayaking or mixed doubles table tennis.

That's exactly what they were doing, and Japan Twitter loved them for it.

Best part of the Games so far was Tirico declaring the awesomeness of team handball in prime time.

Had no idea what a "soapland joint" was, so that was a fun couple minutes on the Google.
