Semi-related, although not the topic of the thread: "Long Shot" on Netflix is a really fun, short watch that's kind of based on this. Just a crazy degree of coincidence in this dude's story.

Honestly, in the initial video, it does sound like he's saying "Dinger"

In the initial video, it sounded pretty N-wordy. In the alternate take, not so much.

They probably need to get a new name for their mascot.

Why isn't their mascot a flying squirrel, anyway?

You can bet the farm that the club is forming a focus group or paying some consultant six figures to come up with a new mascot name.

You don’t issue a knee-jerk statement like that condemning the racism until you are certain that the comment was what you think it was.

Great documentary -- just watched it. I was previously familiar with the story that a guy got his murder case dismissed because his lawyer found him in crowd shots at Dodger Stadium where they were filming an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm in the stands during an actual game (classic episode -- Larry picks up a hooker so he can use the car pool lane to avoid traffic on the way to the stadium) -- and I always told the story to my students when we discussed defenses to crime and the concept of alibis. But there's so much more to it and it's such a powerful human story that shows just how fragile justice can be. The crazy thing -- the detectives who framed him (and the doc doesn't quite get into this) -- were really responsible for the underlying murder in the first place by tipping off gang members (falsely) that the victim had fingered them in a different shooting and her murder was retaliatory.

I will absolutely be showing this in class next term (along with "Thin Blue Line"). Just terrifying stuff.
