    The military is already all up in it. Google up what the Navy is faced with in Norfolk. They have a billion dollars plus worth of infrastructure where a big chunk of it is under water when there is a high tide at full moon. They're spending money like hell trying to get ahead of it. Of course, the Pentagon is well known for their squishy liberal mindset, so that's probably just MSM bullshit.

    The American people used to have a decent civil society and were once problem solvers.

    Rebuilding Europe. Truman plan. Wright bothers. The electric grid. Assembly line. Polio vaccine.

    I don’t know. Seemed like we used to do plenty. But I could be swooning for the cools.

    Alma, if hundreds of people get rich by figuring out how to reverse climate change, isn't that the capitalistic market in action? Find an angle, exploit a market, profit! They would certainly be filling a need, unless you are prepared to tell us the climate changes we see weekly are not real.

    In Alabama, Alabama Power has such a stranglehold on the Public Utility Commission that you can't install solar panels and get enough money back from the power your panels contribute to the grid to ever break even on them.

    Yeah, but while this was happening, large parts of America were terrorizing Black people while also being casually racist and sexist and homophobic. Much as I understand NC’s point, we’ve never really been able to call ourselves the shining beacon on a hill. Being less awful than most other places isn’t exactly worthy of praise.

    Then put it this way - Things are simply appalling now. I'm not excusing the excesses of the Bad Old Days. I'm just saying that much of public discourse and behavior today is reprehensible.

    I suppose I meant more the “decent civil society” part. I’m surprised to see progressives suggest it ever was.
