Miguel Cabrera has hits in his last seven at-bats
He’s up to 2,971 with 21 games left
He’s going to get closer to 3,000 than anyone would have expected at the beginning of the season
    He also has 593 doubles
Only players in baseball history with 3000 hits, 500 homers and 600 doubles are Hank Aaron and Albert Pujols

Last night's 4-for-4 kicked his BA over .250 for the first time this season.

Miggy looked like he was toast at the beginning of the year. Couldn't get around on anything, particularly fastballs inside. But his timing has returned and he's been surprisingly healthy, and that's including playing 41 games at first base -- the most he's been in the field since 2017. He looks every bit of 38 but ancient Miguel Cabrera is still a better hitter than anyone in the lineup.

And yeah, Detroit's paying him a whole lot of money to be mediocre. But for nine consecutive seasons, he was the best or second-best hitter in the American League, so if that's how the Ilitch family wanted to reward him, it's not my money.

Orioles, down 5-0 after 7.5, string together a few hits and walks and pull even. Routine fly to right. Defensive replacement Hunter Dozier is under it until CF brushes up against him. Dozier drops the ball. Two more runs score. Next pitch: 2-run HR. Nine-run inning. Royals’ 3-run HR in top 9 makes it 9-8, but it ends there.

That's a crazy stat. I went to look up how close Barry Bonds came to that 3,000-500-600 mark thinking he was shy in doubles. Turns out he has 601 but missed the 3,000 hits by about 65. Of course he walked 2,500 times, 400 more walks than Ricky Henderson who is second all time. That is batty. Barry probably would have been a 500 homers, 500 stolen bases, 3,000 hits, 600 doubles had he walked maybe 200 fewer times, which represents receiving a third fewer intentional passes.

The wedding thing is legit. Those hotels do great business throughout the fall. Great, scenic place to get hitched. I also think hosting it midweek cut down on the number of day trippers. The Hall wanted a ceremony b/c it didn't want to wait two years to honor Jeter (oh yeah and Miller, Simmons & Walker), but it also quite understandably didn't want the town besieged by a whole bunch of dumbass New Yorkers who thought that being four hours away from Cooperstown meant they could roll in at noon. They had 20,000 there, but on a weekend they'd get at least three times that. And if 2020 was a normal year, they would have gotten 100K.

Derek Jeter is a winner. And he won A LOT. Regular season, playoffs, World Series. He won. Why did he win? Because he's a winner. And winners win.

He is a winner because he won.
