I was giving a presentation on colonial portraiture when 9/11 happened. It took me four hours to get home.

I slept through it. Seriously. I was working third shift crisis intervention at a youth respite center and there must have been something in the water, because I was exhausted and went straight to bed as soon as I walked in the door. My mother woke me up banging on the front door at roughly ten-thirty. She was yelling that The Pentagon had been attacked and The World Trade Center was gone. She walked to the TV and turned on CNN to show me because I was still foggy and it wasn't registering. I live on the flight path for BNA and it was eerily quiet. As Nashvillians do, everybody was draining the gas pumps dry. I drove to Kentucky for some fresh air, sanity, and a full tank.

For the rest of the year and well into 2002, our lines stayed busy all night long with kids calling because they were scared to go to school, scared to get the mail, scared they'd never see their parents again.

People like to talk about how we are still trying to heal from the Trump years. I don't think we've ever gotten past the damage the Bush administration did to this country.

Some of the hijackers were given aid by people from Saudi embassies, sure as hell. There will still be some redactions, but a lot of juicy truths are about to hit the street.

I was driving to work, had NPR on the radio when news of the first plane hit. I got to work, clocked in, walked to the lab and turned on the radio. When the second one happened I turned and looked at the woman who was my partner in the lab and said "This is a terrorist attack."

I got over 9/11 far better than I did the nonsense GWB pulled afterward.

I was working on the news desk during that time. Swing shift. So was asleep while it was all developing. I was assigned all the non-9/11 page that night, including business. Had a story about markets closing, of course, but think my main art was the debut of JLo's fashion line. Having a job to do getting the news out helped me make it through the night. And when AP started running photos of front pages across the country, this one drove the whole desk into hysterics.

I was hosting a sports talk radio show. When the second plane hit, I said “shit” on air. The producer jumped in and we dumped over to CNN radio for live coverage.

At noon, I had to host a local sports TV show. I didn’t want to do it, but station management insisted. So we talked about the attack for the hour. It was rough. People calling in tears. People angry.

I worked third shift and slept through the whole thing. My car was at the mechanic and they called around noon to let me know it was ready. They left a message.

I woke up at 2 or 2:30 and I got a message from a friend telling me to turn on the TV. Now. I remember that night at work, the AC station played in the office was all news and no music.

Worked in WTC 2 until October 2000. Port Authority kicked us out because they wanted to rent whole floors. The other half of our floor had never been finished; there were a lot floors like that. We watched (and covered) the whole thing from Newark.

I still have my WTC Fire Emergency flashlight.

George W Bush probably has spoken at his last GOP convention while Trump is alive.

Just adding that my cousin who worked in WTC 1, mother of three young children, died that day.

Further adding that I flew United for work today. People wete signing UAL's Memorial at LAX.
