2021 MLB Regular Season thread

Welp, here we are, final 3 games of the regular season*

Dodgers get the Brewers, Giants get the Padres.

 

Dodgers realistically need to sweep the Brewers to stand a chance. Even two out of three against means they need to Giants to get swept. Of course all of that could happen and I'm not going to be comfortable until that Magic Number reads zero, but I'm not as butt puckery as I was this whole week. Now ask me again tomorrow, I might have a different story.

As a Dodgers fan, I've given up on the division and the wildcard game scares the crap out of me. Too many bad memories of playoff losses to St. Louis and Dave Roberts' propensity to over manage are not a good combination.

 

This year is payback for 1993.

Imagine you are Roberts and every one of your moves will be compared to the stolen base for BOS vs. NYY.

 

Kind of funny that the Dodgers gave them the guy who is responsible for breaking the curse.

As payback, with interest, the Dodgers got Mookie.

 

Roberts is an interesting case. He has won five division titles, a likely wildcard, been to three World Series and won one (should have been two). Yet half the fan base wants him fired. He's seen as a guy who wins only because of all the talent he gets and as a puppet for the front office.

He's considered great in the clubhouse, but not on the field. He gets too caught up in lefty-righty matchups and makes tons of pitching and pinch hitting changes. He has run out of players a number of times because of too many maneuvers early.

Interestingly, he beat out Gabe Kapler for the job.
