I also think that we used to have politicians on the right who would speak out against this behavior. Not everyone, but the leadership and many of the members. Now, these people realize that they can’t win without that portion of the base and embraced it.

Also, Trump requires you to fully buy into everything which he says or get attacked. Take Nikki Haley — I wouldn’t vote for her but she struck me as a fairly reasonable and savvy politician. She’s dipped and out of MAGA world but every time she distances herself, she gets smacked down and has to kiss the ring so she has to buy in fully.

Nimrata Randhawa, of course, would never have a chance in flaming hell to ever get elected to anything in the GQP if she didn't anglicize her name and attach herself politically to powerful white males. If she ran under her birth name all the jethros in the voter base would suddenly notice she's kinda funny colored and that would be the end of that.

I truly hope they take it on the chin in the midterms, and this puts an end to it. I really don't think most of the base on which they are counting will turn out. If the demagogue isn't on the ballot, I suspect the hard core mouth breathers will stay home.

    I hope you're right, but I'm skeptical.

If they overturn Roe v Wade and there are some other monumental decisions coming down next summer, Republicans may have a particularly uphill fight, even considering their historically advantageous position at the moment.

Then again, does Roe motivate the proper part of the Democrat base?

I’m a little surprised they’ve allowed themselves to get this close to overturning Roe. I can’t fathom how much cash they’ve raised off that effort over the decades.
