Opinion | The Unvaccinated May Not Be Who You Think

"Almost 95 percent of those over 65 in the United States have received at least one dose. This is a remarkable number, given that polling has shown that this age group is prone to online misinformation, is heavily represented among Fox News viewers and is more likely to vote Republican. Clearly, misinformation is not destiny."

We value life and realize we're not bulletproof. Probably almost everyone over 65 has seen a family member, a close friend, or a close friend of a friend, die from Covid. Makes it a lot more real.

Most people over 65 remember polio, if not through personal experience than through stories told by their parents 40-50 years ago about how much they feared it and what it could do, and how grateful they were for the vaccine.

So COVID hit my life this AM. Woke up to a text from buddy who was vaccinated and shared golf cart and went to restaurant with last week. He said he tested positive and had symptoms a few days ago.

Thought immediately about what that meant for my family and circle of friends who I had been around. Got a test at CVS. Luckily negative. Others at dinner negative too. Thankfully.

luckily we as a country are in such a better place about this than say one year ago. Rapid testing available, knowing there are people vaccinated, and treatment available somewhat. Medicine is amazing.

My parents spent months trying to convince their neighbor they’ve known for 50 years to get vaccinated. He ran the funeral home and was in contact with people continuously, but believed the misinformation that people were dying from the vaccine. Not a crazy person, just misinformed.

He came down with a sore throat two weekends ago and was dead within four days.

They’re so distraught they couldn’t get through to him, but I’m having to assure them they did all they could do and that we all make our own decisions. I think it’s an extension of their stress over my sister and her family refusing to get vaccinated. They’re so frustrated that everyone around them sees neighbors and friends die weekly and accept it as normal.

It’s more than mourning the dead. It’s the loss of respect of everyone you knew your whole life. It’s heartbreaking.

At least he probably got a discount on the casket, viewing and internment (yes, I shouldn't be flippant, but if anyone should know how dangerous and real Covid is, it should be a funeral director).

Meanwhile, two more Virginians have their freedom and avoided the long-term effects of the vaccine.

You can't fix stupid, but sometimes it takes care of the problem all by itself.

What is there to say, if they want that cross then it's theirs to carry.
Roll the dice. Just don't be surprised to get snake-eyes.
