    And it gets worse.

A couple weeks ago i watched my alma mater, Starrville High, take on suburban rival BigChief High. My boys scored on the final play of the first quarter to make it 42-0.
Running clock from there on. Final 49-0.

Inglewood's (city, not school) nickname is: City of Champions.
Of course, Morningside is in Inglewood, too.

Best one was during the nickname craze. Crenshaw started it and was known as Shaw, had that on the football helmets.
So Inglewood came with Wood on its helmets. When Morningside added Side, somebody wondered if it also had Top.

Damn it. How could they not have gone with "Morning?" The implications of a Morning-Wood game are HUGE.

If you can't get up for THAT game, you're just impotent.

Covered an 8-man playoff game last night that wound up a modest 44-36, but there were four touchdowns -- each of which changed the lead or tied it -- in the last three minutes and 13 plays of the game. There was another lead change earlier in the fourth quarter as well. They scored 36 points combined in the fourth quarter.
Last play of the game, the losing team had it at the opponent's 30-yard line and the QB took off running. After zig-zagging from one side of the field to the other and breaking two or three tackles, he got inside the 5 before the last guy tripped him up with an ankle tackle.
Fun game to cover, except for the sad interviews with the home team at the end.

Way to rise to the challenge. I’d tell you to take a victory lap, but I recognize you may need a minute to get … organized

If the game takes longer than 4 hours please consult a physician immediately.

Lynwood had fun with The Wood for awhile during the Chuck Levy era. Not sure if that's still a thing.
