dixiehack, the New Jersey results are just counterweights in a state that is undergoing its own set of changes.

I don't want to be inspired. I want people who defend themselves in a rock fight.

The infighting and inability to pass Biden's big bills hurt momentum and turnout, but I would argue that frustration and dismay that nothing of substance on Trump's crimes, over the FBI's lack of response, etc has also done a lot to hurt the Dems.

Republicans regard power as a thing to be used. Democrats regard power as a thing to be admired inside of a glass case, but never deployed lest they lose it. They never get it through their skulls that they eventually will lose it anyway.

In re: thermostatic public opinion. Marquette Poll of Wisconsin was released today. It showed ALL statewide elected officials underwater in their approval ratings, Democrats and Republicans alike. It found Biden -10 and Trump at -17. That's all around crankiness and frustration with the pandemic. IMO Biden's biggest mistake was not issuing vaccine mandates in the spring (he still hasn't required it for air travel, which I just don't get). There'd have been howls, but there'd also have been more vaccinations and a less severe delta variant wave.

"After four years of embarrassing Trump-created disasters that culminated in mass COVID fatalities, a violent attempt to overturn the presidential election, still ongoing efforts to fabricate evidence of election fraud, and the ascendance of an electorally significant movement whose premise is that Democrats operate a cannibalism ring with Tom Hanks, a determinative number of Virginia voters have decided they’re OK enough with the Republican “brand” that they’re going to give the party a shot running their state. Again, this is on the same day that a number of ardent Republicans gathered in Dallas’ Dealey Plaza because they thought John F. Kennedy Jr., who died in 1999, was going to appear there to confirm an alliance with Trump."

I'll ask for your apology instead in chastising people who thought Garland had no fire in his belly. WHich it turns out he patently does not.

I'd have far rather seen Sally Yates in the job, myself. Garland is a disappointment, and that's putting a pretty face on things. That said, anything in the federal courts moves glacially, and even moreso if there is political risk involved. I continue to dare hope that some of the court cases make a dent. Lord knows that the track record there isn't encouraging.

None of which justifies asking for more Hat Guy, who is pretty roundly detested here.
