The Democrats might also try to generate some leadership not eligible for AARP benefits. Pelosi, Warren, Sanders and Schumer are all old enough to have campaigned -- or voted -- for Hubert Humphrey. Exactly how is that message reaching Gen X, Gen Y or Gen Z?

Funny how that works, isn't it?

I'll note this again: The leading vote-getter for Board of Ed here -- in bluest of blue north Jersey where the Gov actually had a branch campaign office -- got more votes than Murphy.

I wanted Murphy to win. The last thing the country needs is another Trumpist executive. But it might have been fun to write a headline like "Trumpist Dropkicks Murphy."

Did Democrats hold on to the VA House of Delegates? They still have the Senate, right?

It's still possible that a Q-yokel is going to come up with a "note" from JFK Jr. in the next few ays. He'll claim the note was handed to him after getting bumped into at Dealy Plaza and that before he could look up again "JFK Jr" was gone. And the note will say that it's true he's running with Trump. And the note will be PROOF!

To me the story is the turnout. 600k more votes for the R in this race than four years ago. And McAullife received more D votes than any D candidate in the state and was still shoved aside. To me, the Ds ability to mount a thorough grassroots campaign at the "ground" level is no longer a monopoly.
I also think the political spectrum from left to right isn't like a circle, but closer to a triangle - political leanings don't gradually reach the fringes - at least emotionally - there may be a few even-tempered moderates, but now people a few degrees on either side of the middle are probably closer to AOC and Josh Hawley than they are each other.

*Did* the D's really mount a ground game GOTV drive though? I never really heard anyone pushing one. The memory of the Senate election in Georgia is fresh in my mind, and you heard nothing approaching that level of effort and concern about Va.
