We should run a “Danold Trump’’ or “Donald Trunp’’ or “Donald Z. Trump’’ in every key senate race, then infiltrate their information areas and spread the rumors that its really him.

Per the Dallas Q-meetup, JFK Jr. gets the nod.

    As was foretold.

I'm no Civil War expert but I remember this battle as the perfect example of how horrible Union generals could be. The plan was for the Army of Potomic to race across the river and then march onto a lightly defneded Richmond. Alas, though, the pontoon bridges they needed were somewhere far back in the rear. (Or there were no horses to bring them up. Some tragic-comic nonsense.)

It literally took weeks to set up the bridges, while the Confederates had all the time in the world to fortify the high ground and cliffs on the other side. When the crossing finally took place, a massacre occured.

    Two points:

    1. It was a massive logistical failure. Pontoons were in DC and took weeks to arrive. Had they arrived in a more timely fashion, Burnsides could have crossed the Rappahannock unopposed.

    2. The portion of the Battle of Fredericksburg everyone knows occurred at Marye's Heights in front of the stone wall (I actually live on the Union left flank of this portion of the battlefield, about 200 yards down from the wall). But the more interesting part of the battle is over on the far Union left flank, a mile or two from downtown Fredericksburg.

There Franklin's Grand Division scored a serious breakthrough against Jackson's troops. But - like so many battles - Union reserves weren't committed, and several commanders were paralyzed by inaction, and a great opportunity was lost. A Union victory in that portion of the battle would have put Lee's troops in quite a pinch.

There are those funny time traveler books where white supremists take AK-47 back in time to arm the Confederacy. Really though just a really really nice collection of walkie talkies to facilitate better coordination between commanders would have been enough to swing nearly every major engagement one way or another.

Also: There aren't really "cliffs" in Fredericksburg. It's kind of just a nice gradually climbing plain to a modest hill.

If you've ever been to Chattanooga, it's easy to see that the Union victories on Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge - two physically imposing obstacles - were much more impressive than the Confederate defense of Fredericksburg.

The Rebels made it way too easy to find Chattanooga, what with all the "See Rock City" and "Visit Ruby Falls" signs. Once you invite Yankees in, they'll never leave.

The traffic by Hamilton Place Mall and the Ridge Cut probably held them up for a good 18 months though.

    I really like Chattanooga.

Civil War sites scratch my itch, and the geological formations are awesome. And my girl and I had a great time in their downtown.

Lived there for several years and it's really a wonderful little town that flies under the radar. Thankfully!

But they got really confused when I 24 crept into Georgia for a couple of miles before reentering Tennessee
