Pretty soon our social media options will be corporate overlords Zuckerberg/Musk or the racist hubs of Trumpists.

Trump claimed at various times that he received an MBA from Wharton, was Valedictorian of his college class, was the top baseball prospect in NY state and that he met his first wife when she was competing as an Olympic skier. Not to mention that his current wife lied on her website that she is a college graduate.

Truth is optional for the GOP

I think this is a weird move that will not help Twitter, but it's not a free speech issue. Twitter is a private company. If we can agree that people like Trump can be kicked off and that MTG can lose her personal account for their behavior, then we have to accept that Twitter can accept whatever speech it feels like accepting.

Musk just bought 9% of Twitter and became its largest shareholder. It's not like they had much choice in the matter.

Twitter is a public company, it's not private.

Giving him a board seat will benefit them. Their management had no say in him buying a chunk of the company, so they have a pain in the ass on their hands. But by accepting a board seat, it put limitations on his ability to up his stake, which would allow him to try to take it over, and it made it put disclosure requirements on him if he wants to unload stock. The guy is unpredictable, and he has a history of not following the rules anyhow and getting away with it. But the board seat is an attempt to put some limitations on his ability to screw with them and their share price.
