I threw this up without comment yesterday, but I want to touch on it again. Cyber Ninjas has been told to produce these documents three or four times now, and keeps appealing and weaseling out. It sounds like the judge has had enough. I'm very curious about what it is that they are so anxious to hide.

You could also call it a year of jubilee. But that would be lost on the people so in love with using the Bible as a cudgel that they never get around to studying it.

I'm....not sure I think it's going to be an overall good for society. Or maybe it will - but not in the way people imagine.

If you forgive the debts, I'm not sure anyone would expect anything different than free college going forward. And, maybe, if you can no longer put random folks on the hook for a lot of money, maybe the colleges tighten their admissions a lot more and focus a lot less on trying to con students into dropping tons of money because of a cool campus or a lazy river.

 

I'm kinda torn on the student debt bailout idea. I went to a state school in the 90s, and it cost about $9K-$10K a year, including personal expenses. Using an inflation calculator, $10K in 1994 would be a little more than $19K now. Looking on my alma mater's website, billed charges are $23K, and that's not counting personal expenses or books. So a student would be out probably an additional $7.5 K a year, which could end up being $30K in student loans after four years beyond what it would have been if the student had gone to school when I was there. So I understand it.

At the same time, my oldest is currently wrapping up his third year. He gets scholarships, (much better grades than your's truly, plus he's better looking and doesn't lack confidence with the female sex), state and financial aid, and his state school's price is roughly the same $23K plus personal expenses. His scholarships and aid probably pay around $14K. He, my wife, and I split the remainder three ways so we each pay about $3K a year. He works full time in the summer in one of the careers he's pursuing to pay his $3K college costs, his car expenses, set aside some for school personal expense and for some summer fun. He also does some lawn mowing for neighbors and odd jobs for some summer pocket cash. He also works two jobs about 10-15 hours a week combined on campus during the year for more personal expense money

He'll likely graduate with zero in student loans, or we may decide to take a couple of thousand out for his senior year just to build up his credit a little. So it also can be done with little to no debt.

Someone else suggested on here, but rather than just wipe the slate clean for everyone, which isn't fair to those who already sacrificed or are sacrificing now, wipe out a certain amount (heck, let's say $10K, although that can be flexible), reduce the total of interest down to a small percentage so mostly the principal remains, and have some reforms for the loan industry (I'm open to ideas).

 

Have not been following the McCarthy tape(s) story very closely. Has it been revealed who recorded the tape(s) and how TNYT came in possession of it/them?

 

Not to my knowledge, but the Trump inner circle is well known for being a nest of vipers. If you add the incentive of giving the investigators evidence in exchange for favorable treatment, well - the list of possibles is pretty long.

Instead of splitting apart, R's will stick together as McCarthy stays Speaker and nutters such as Jordan (Judiciary), MGT, Gaetz, Gosar etc are given key committee chairs.
