Disagree, brother. Makar had clear possession before he got to the blue line. That was as offside as it gets.
But that is the frustrating thing about the NHL. They have all of these infuriating addendums to the rules and regulations that they always come up with. FYI, I don't care who wins this series, just want to see good, fair hockey.

I don’t care either but the rule was interpreted correctly, he doesn’t touch the puck until Nichuskin tags up. There are other goals similar that have stood. Does the rule need to change? Probably, but it was called correctly here. Nobody touches the puck while the player is offside.

I get where you’re coming from because it looked cut and dried offside when I first watched it, but it wasn’t some addendum that allowed the goal to stand. It was just the pure rule.

Nothing about what happens before Makar/the puck get to the line is relevant. So whether he had control before he got to the line doesn’t matter.

What matters is what happens once the puck crosses. Once it crossed, if Makar had touched it while his teammate’s skates were still in the zone, it’s offside. Or, if Makar’s skates had entered before his teammate was out, it’s offside. But neither of those things happened.

As far as the rule is concerned, this is the same as if Makar had dumped it in from the red line while his teammate was still in the zone, and then gone to chase it once his teammate had cleared the zone.

Also, what’s getting lost in all of this is what a ridiculous fucking shot that was by Makar.

As far as I'm concerned, the Hurricanes deserved to lose for selling this shirt:

No problem with them wearing the Whalers threads, but don't slap the logo on a shirt that says, "Carolina Hurricanes."

In a similar vein, the Avalanche deserves to lose for marketing this atrocity:

I get it. Looked at it again. It seemed like the puck was on his stick when he crossed the blue line (offside). But if it was an inch in front of his stick, then he didn't have possession and it's not offside.
In a sport so fast, the preciseness of this is crazy. Koharski didn't know from his initial response. Then he had to support the final ruling because they always do. Woodcroft didn't know, that's why he kept pointing at his replay monitor and yelling at the refs.

They have rules (addendums) that the participants don't even understand. How about the one where a player skating backward can drag the puck over the blue line -- if he has possession -- and it isn't offside. According to this ruling, I'd say that if the puck is an inch away from his stick, then he doesn't have possession.

Oh well, carry on. These playoffs are fun.

Brett Hull doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. Rules, schmules, both are for fools.
