Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)

I have a sneaking suspicion that Tala, the double-agent Imperial officer who helps Obi-Wan and Little Leia escape, is Sola Naberrie (Padme's sister, thus Leia's aunt).
She has a slight facial resemblance to Natalie Portman, and some of the exchanges with Obi-Wan seemed to hint that Tala was more than just casually aware of Leia's background.

Even her backstory which she relates to Obi-Wan, "I believed in the Empire when I joined up; but then I saw what they really were," fits perfectly with what little we know of Padme's family.

Oh, and nobody's commented on the "mystery Jedi" Obi-Wan saw standing out on the mountaintop for a brief fleeting moment. The fella did seem to have an Irish air about him.

And also, the passing one-sentence mention of Obi-Wan's (younger) brother. That's got to be a setup for something.

For that matter, it's not entirely impossible his previously-unmentioned parents could still be alive at this point, either. Obi-Wan is roughly about 50 here, so his parents could logically be in their mid-70s.

Obi-Wan's brief barbecue in the coal fire at the end is the logical setup for his appearance change to the apparently-much-older Alec Guinness. I'm sure next episode will open with a visibly wizened and aged-up McGregor recovering from his burns.

Wasn’t the jedi he saw Anakin, his mind playing tricks? Or did I miss a scene?

I watched the third episode again. Damn that was great. Vader was toying with him. Making him suffer.

This series has surpassed my high expectations so far.

The mystery Jedi has to be either Obi-Wan's vision of Anakin, who he last saw lying burned and disfigured on Mustafar, or Qui-Gon, with whom he's been trying to "commune" for 10 years.

I think we also have to assume that ole Obi-Wan ain't quite right in the head, so what he thinks he's seeing may not be the truth. From a certain point of view.

I watched the first three episodes last night, and my initial reaction was a B-. After stewing on it overnight... It's more in the B+ category for me.

Because it's a prequel with so many things already established in the future - we know so many of these characters are surviving - that lowers the ceiling for me. Also, I realize they're different canons, but it's hard to go from Dr. Strange 2 and Moon Knight, to this show, when all three of them have the same tone in some ways. Meaning, everything is skewing just a bit darker.

That being said, fuck, they went to a really dark place with Vader in ep3. I realize there was probably no way Lucas and the others could have went that dark in a movie and keep it PG / PG-13 / for kids, but that was way more effective at establishing Vader as a vile personality than anything in the movies. There was a sadistic glee in his actions that really got across in that scene.

I've seen some talk online asking why the fire stopped Vader. I would counter that it's not exactly in his skill set to jump over something. Whether consciously or not, it's interesting how most of the Jedi and Sith develop power skill sets that take into account their personalities. For Vader, that's all about rage, raw power and intimidation. Kenobi is more of a 'classic' sword fighter and tactician. The one time we see Yoda fight, it's a frantic, animated style that takes advantage of his small size.

Speaking of... I definitely think we're seeing Yoda or Grogu in this shit. (He's alive at this point, right?) Mostly because SW can't help themselves when it comes to crossover content.

Technically, we've already seen Yoda. /pedantic_asshole

Vader (in full uniform) does make a 30 foot leap during his big fight against Luke in ROTJ.
The Jedi superhuman ability to leap is depicted insanely erratically from one episode to the next. In ROTS, Anakin and Obi-Wan leap literally hundreds of meters during the Mustafar battle.

Was it a leap as much as it was a graceful drop?

Well, in the Mustafar battle, they definitely leap upward and laterally from the different derrick structures in the lava river.

Oh, for sure. Anakin's got Jedi agility. Vader's a hulking machine. Graceful would be the last word I'd use to describe him. Even if the injuries didn't sap his moves, wouldn't the heavy machinery?

Or maybe Vader looked at the fire, and thought, “last time I fucked around with fire, I found out.”

I did think that, too. The mask hides his facials, so, he could have frozen up at that point.

I was glad when the fire happened because I could finally see something. Why is so much shot in the pitch dark?
