Indeed. He called the critic an old man (he was in his 20s). They later met, Truman apologized and then he either signed a copy of the article, or the critic did....

 

Say this for the 1-6 Committee - they've done a good job of laying out the narrative - and in a compelling way. I almost think Bob Woodward is consulting. You start with the "little people" (almost like building a fire with sticks, and kindling) and slowly work your way up to the logs. Remembered hearing a deep investigations guy at an SPJ seminar talk about nibbling around the edges of a story and having it pretty much done before you schedule an interview for the person in the cross-hairs. When Woodward does one of his deep dives, he has people begging for an interview or three once they realize they need to get their version of events out.
