It complicates any attempts that Trumpists in the House and Senate might make to overturn the Electoral College results that the almighty fucking states have already sent.
This piece says the states can't overturn the results of the elections in their borders, but it also points out that states don't have to conduct POTUS elections in the first place. Theoretically, I suppose they can pass legislation or amend their own state constitutions to entrust the selection of Electoral College representatives to the state legislatures, thereby officially doing away with democracy.
