And even though she did not play, you can say Rachel Robinson was a big piece of that Brooklyn team. Standing by Jackie Robinson side.

Carl Erskine is also still alive, I believe.

A life well lived and spent.
May his memory be a blessing.

Vin was also a yuge classic lit nerd.
Only 1984 Vin could drop a few Manley Hopkins verses during a White Sox-Brewers game and it was considered just part of the show.
Imagine someone like Matt Vasgersian trying the same thing.

Noted in the comments. There are also several other Brooklyn/LA players left.

Koufax would be the major oversight.

Don't forget Billy Chapel's perfect game.

A great trivia question: How many perfect games did Vin Scully call? Five; Don Larsen (1956), Sandy Koufax (1965), Tom Browning (1988), Dennis Martinez (1991) and Billy Chapel (1999).

Of course I knew that, it was more of a comment on how long it'd probably been in the can. My guess, 10 years at least, perhaps some minor updates before it aired.

This is great writing, but the reason it keeps getting brought up every now and again is because it nails how Vin would weave the story and describing the action perfectly together - like this:

For sure. Like you read obits that are written by writers who have already died.

Vin was a stellar football announcer. Not mentioned enough in the many tributes.

One story about Game 6 is that before they cut to break, Vin had a hot mic and can be heard loudly asking Joe why the heck the Mets made such-and-such move right before it fades out. I imagine he did a lot of that in the booth.

Harry Coyle, who started at DuMont after World War II and was a director beginning with the 1947 World Series, was in the truck for that World Series, his last before retiring from NBC.
