I’m sure there’s an excellent reason why someone with $100,000 in loans was in journalism but…why?

The rest of Leviticus is enlightening on notions of debt and forgiveness and brotherhood.

35 “If your brother becomes poor and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall support him as though he were a stranger and a sojourner, and he shall live with you. 36 Take no interest from him or profit, but fear your God, that your brother may live beside you. 37 You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.

    Ask her.

Higher education is a boutique business. Every place has to have its own spin on a fitness center or library or quad or whatever to make it stand out. It's like recruiting football or basketball players. That's an entirely different issue that should be addressed sooner than later...

That said, it doesn't diminish the point that these folks aren't getting "get out of jail free" cards for their life choices. They're still paying a fair bit.

I guess there weren't enough convicts volunteering so they could get out of prison.

As to student loans, exactly how financially savvy is the average 18-20 year old? They've been told,(and outright pressured) that getting a good college degree is how you make a good living. They do whatever they can to get that done, and then at some point realize that they've dug a helluva financial hole for themselves.

Hell, when my kid was a freshman, he signed up for a credit card to get a cool t-shirt. Note that at the time he got it, he did not have a job and was coming off of a TBI. (Thanks, Discover card) Next thing you know there are a few dates, trips to the bar or restaurant, impulse purchases, and he's carrying a balance he can't hack. College kids don't make great decisions, and it isn't exactly revolutionary to say so.

I think the Mashantucket’s and Pequots wanted a casino in East Windsor, to “stop” people from going to Springfield. It was a dumb idea from the start and was never built. I’m
Not sure where the idea fell apart. That’s probably the Zinke angle.

People who think Joe Biden signs a piece of paper and hundreds of billions of dollars of debt are "forgiven" without a cost. ... are really no different than those 18 to 20 year olds who thought that when they incurred the debt there wasn't going to be a cost involved. In some ways, those kids are actually more mature, because they are doing something for which they bear any risks associated with the decisions we're talking about.

Consumer debt levels are soaring. There are a lot of reasons for that (one main reason) that have nothing to do with people's ability to financially plan their lives. But without getting into that. ... those kids you are talking about are a reflection of the country, not an immature outlier.
