If this is a DB I apologize, but the death of George V, Elizabeth's grandfather, was caused by the royal physician giving him a fatal speedball. King was dying anyway, but the doctor hastened his exit, I shit you not, in time to make deadline for the morning papers (the Times, really). So all copy desks should make this man their hero.

If it happened today the fatal dose would have to be given by 2 p.m. the day before press.

Whatever your opinion is on Great Britain and the whole king thing, they definitely have the pomp and circumstance down to a tea. RIP, Elizabeth.

They do, don't they. And BBC, which had been planning coverage of these 10 days for decades, covered it like David Lean was the director in the truck ... oops, outside broadcast mobile. Royal stuff was made for HDTV.

Say what you will of the English and the monarchy, but that was one helluva funeral. Impressive.

And the English can wear hats like nobody's business.

No matter if your the King of England or Joe the plumber, it's tough when your mother dies. No matter how old she was or what kind of a life she led.
