It reminds me of Tom Petty doing “Free Fallin’” with Axl Rose at one of those MTV awards shows back in the day.

Both are great, and both did what brought them to the dance, so to speak, but they were like oil and water trying to do it together.

Speaking of “Free Fallin” … for those of us who still frequent the graveyard of commercial radio stations, you’d think that was the only song Tom Petty ever wrote based on what is played today.

That was the first song that popped into my head when I saw the thread title.

Yeah, McCartney’s Christmas dreck isn’t exactly “Watcher of the Skies.”

The mid-90s were an abyss of woe.

I'll still hold with Lee Greenwood as No. 1, but this song has creeped me out for a half-century. It just brings up eerie feelings.

Speaking of covers, I hate this trend where people take nice, normal old songs and add an unnecessary beat to it. Club Nouveau's "Lean on Me" and Fugees' "Killing Me Softly" are two that come to mind. If anyone does that to "Bridge Over Troubled Water," they're fucking dead.

That made for our headline in Fort Lauderdale the night the Dolphins beat the undefeated Bears in 1985.

    Was my mom's favorite song.

    All that being said . . .
