Democratic candidate Hobbs won statewide office in Arizona, which isn't that easy for any Democrat to do. The idea that candidates lose because they're bad at running for office is a commonly held belief among all Americans, but often it's survivor bias. Most times, larger trends like economic conditions or even just the political makeup of a district or state determine election outcomes. You can run a great campaign as a Democrat running for Governor of Idaho, or a Republican running for Congress in Massachusetts, and odds are you're going to lose anyway.
