Having dealt with small-town law enforcement in the south, there is no chance in hell Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields is telling the truth if he doesn't have a sneaking suspicion who did this. It's not like Andy Griffith, but from my first-hand experience (both on the good and bad side of the law), the sheriff of a southern county knows almost everything going on in his jurisdiction. He's usually not only familiar with the same drug dealers and crooks, but part and parcel with every civic organization, both legal and illegal.

And the FBI is going to be like stink on a turd, so if there's any hanky-panky, Mr. Fields is going to be in a world of hurt mighty quick.

Without any evidence, I'm going to guess at least one of his deputies will wind up involved, one or two Duke Energy employees, along with a county commissioner and even a couple of prominent business folks -- with my money on the guy who owns the gun shop. This wasn't just trailer trash. It was a coordinated effort by people who knew what they were doing and where they wanted to do it.

 

North Carolina's finest are already all over it. They'll crack this case faster than you can say Howard Sprague.

 

Just need to get Otis out of the cell first. And I heard the Fun Girls were coming over from Mount Pilot.

 

One of the shooters will run his mouth while Floyd's giving him a haircut. Or Aunt Bea will guilt him into confessing.

 

I’m pretty sure they can rule out Earnest T Bass. He only throws rocks.
