I hope Grant Wahl honored beyond measure and that one day he gets in the U.S Soccer Hall of Fame

    This. Absolutely this.

We are quick to mock conspiracy theorists, and rightfully so. So let's not indulge in it ourselves.

Not my finest hour on this thread last night. Had one too many pops at happy hour and definitely ran with the brother's comments to a level I shouldn't have. I had not heard about him being sick prior to the match, which is pretty important context.

Agree 100% on the tamping down conspiracy theories. People are saying he was poisoned in jail — he was never arrested, just briefly detained at the stadium. He said a couple of times that he was under the weather.

As a writer he was immense. I can’t think of anyone else who is the unanimous first choice writer of a sport the way that he was with American soccer for the past 15-20 years. And everything you read today is that he was a kind person who made time for people without his reputation.

Awful news. I’m 48 too and it’s just another reminder of life’s fragility.

My wife and daughter had control of the remote for their usual Saturday morning routine, so I didn’t watch any pregame. What did FoxSports do with it?

That happened on the copy desk at the News
Guy was in his 60s, still smoked and was hanging on while he finished improvements to his house
    That’s one reason I retired at 63
I didn’t want that to happen to me

As long as they keep me on this four-day schedule, I'll continue to work.
The minute they take it away and put me back on five days, I'm retiring.
So good to be able to make that decision.

Much like Dave Martin, the great Alabama-based AP photographer, who collapsed at the Georgia Dome moments after shooting the Chick-fil-A Bowl celebration on New Year's 2014.

Yeah, I latched onto his brother’s comments and ran with it. Foul on my part. I can understand the brother feeling the way he did, but putting out that video only got the conspiracies rolling.

Conspiracies aside, it happened in Qatar, which gets no benefit of the doubt. Guilty until proven innocent.
This is a country where if a woman is forcibly raped, she has two choices: marry her attacker or go to prison for sex out of wedlock.
