Just heard a song called"Mr. Popeil" which is not a parody in itself but a clear homage to the B-52s.

Also just heard "Melanie" and "Christmas at Ground Zero," which are original songs and not parodies.

The world needs a permanent Weird Al channel.

Based on a few sounders, this particular radio station is stunting to a reformat. Doubt it'll be Weird Al Radio but mad props for the stunt.

I wish somebody today with a deeper playlist would re-create this line of comedy, although modern licensing would be a nightmare. Dickie Goodman was definitely on the right track.

Here's a Dickie Goodman moment that more tickles my awareness:

Goodman is the godfather of novelty music, no question. He had a great bit going. Weird Al is just carrying the torch.

No question? Here's one: What about Spike Jones?

And the question for the ages:
Was it Feetlebaum or Beetlebaum or Beetle Bomb or Beedlebaum ... or what?

The best Weird Al original song is "One More Minute," but the best video is "You Don't Love Me Anymore," which is just a perfect parody of "More Than Words," except with the janitor from "Smells Like Teen Spirit" maiming Robert Goulet.

Through work, I somehow got a free copy of "Straight Outta Linwood" many years ago (late 2000s probably). It immediately became one of my favorite CDs.
"Don't Download This Song" is very much of its time, but is hilarious.
And "Trapped in the Drive Thru" is a goddam classic. It's an 11-minute parody of R. Kelly's rambling "Trapped in the Closet" that nails the tone perfectly while also telling a really entertaining story in its own right. It's one of my all-time favorite songs.

I will contend until my last breath: for whatever you say about its leadership, Weird Al deserves induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He's in his fifth decade of relevance (sixth if you consider his fledgling days with Dr. Demento in the late '70s). He's outlasted the vast majority of the acts he's parodied (he's even done two generations of Cyruses) and made it a badge of honor to be parodied.

And then you've got all the originals, the songwriting and just how good his band is to replicate all the different genres.

With all due respect to the likes of Allen Sherman, Spike Jones and Ray Stevens, Al has gone way beyond just being a comedy artist.

I watch this video at least once a month. Favorite part is when Al picks up the guitar to start the second verse then just as quickly puts it down.
