It was actually a pretty good discussion - the OK state senator was pretty clear about where he was coming from, but without the bluster, performance art you tend to see from righties. I came away realizing gun people are beyond having a rational discussion. And it isn't even really about them, but the dynamic of Gun people convincing themselves that the government wants to take their guns, and legislators fearing for their lives (or at minimum their jobs) if they did anything about guns. There is a plentiful supply of gun absolutists ready to serve and the bar has been set quite low - they'll accept anyone.
Even read about John Lott who was mentioned in the discussion. Now they can find their own academics who can back them up - or at least concoct studies that they can cite - whether they are legit or not.

 

I really don’t want to see conflict, even on a subterranean level, but we need it to clear out some of these whack jobs.
