I want them to have the freedom to carry a registered gun after a background check.

Which apparently makes me an Orwellian villain and a tyrant.

    They’re not equally valid.

The right to not be shot at in school is way more important.

And anyone who’s worried about background checks shouldn’t own a gun.

News flash: Things don't have to be EQUALLY VALID!!!!! to be points of discussion.

It's the one thing that bogs down every damn political discussion.

You can talk about concussion protocol and replay review as things the NFL should address without worrying whether they are EQUALLY IMPORTANT!!!!! "Player safety" is way more important than a 5-minute replay delay, but you can still address both. Same applies for political policies. The odds that ANY two freedoms are going to line up in a perfectly symmetrical relationship are about zero --- so quit harping on it. My list of "1o most important freedoms" is going to be different from yours or 100 other people. What's important to Joe can be meaningless to Tom, and vice versa.

I’m waiting to be able to have a discussion on guns.

“You can’t regulate guns in any way” doesn’t really allow for much discussion.

Well, there ARE regulations. I'm sure not enough for you. But they aren't "unregulated."

An 18-year-old can't buy a gun in DeathSantis' state unless he is a law enforcement officer or correctional officer, and even then only rifles or shotguns.

But they can own a gun at 18.

Oh, fuck right off, you contrarian twit. Both can be discussed, but you presented the right to not be shot at school and the right to carry a gun as if they are equal. You can shove that foolishness right up the wrong end of your anatomy.
