What guy hasn’t had a “did she mention my name” girl back in the old hometown?

This hits hard as a Canadian.

Damn. His singing voice was similar in tone and pitch to my maternal grandfather, so listening to him was like a visit back to De-troy-it and that Ontario farm accent.

"Pickin' up the pieces of my sweet shattered dream
I wonder how the old folks are tonight
Her name was Ann and I'll be damned if I recall her face
She left me not knowin' what to do..."

Early Morning Rain. For Lovin' Me. Ribbon of Darkness. Beautiful. Rainy Day People. Summertime Dream. The Circle is Small. Old Dan's Records. Never Too Close.

I love them all, plus the ones already mentioned, but "I'll Be Alright" is my favorite.

Rest in peace, Canadian legend. Your songs will live on.

Wow, sad news. Saw him about 20 years ago and he joked about how a capo allowed “old Gord” to sing songs young Gord used to reach with ease.

I will have to grab the guitar and bust out “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” and a personal favorite, “Cotton Jenny.”

    RIP to a great one.

In a note that I think that is appropriate both for his death and for this venue, the weather on Lake Superior was legitimately terrible today. Large parts of the Upper Peninsula received a foot-plus of lake-effect snow. No snow here, but I lasted three innings before streaming yesterday in a college softball doubleheader that had to be played (last day of regular season, for the league championship), in which the scores were 17-4 and 16-11. Temperature: 40 degrees, north wind 15 mph gusting to 30 and light rain.

These last two pics make me wonder how far apart the studio and Bryan Cranston are to play him in the biopic.

Some sort of recognition before Tuesday's Panthers-Leafs game?

Amazon Prime has a great Lightfoot documentary.

As far as a feature movie, Cranston has the look, but he's 67 -- he could certainly play late-season Gord.

But Lightfoot had his run as a big star in his thirties. It'd be hard to de-age Cranston enough to sell the resemblance.

As for the younger version, don't laugh but I think Justin Timberlake might be able to pull it off. (The look, not the voice.) Hayden Christensen might be another possibility.
