That ticket was worth $2.40 that day. (And a place bet paid more which is pretty rare, shows you how much was bet on him to win. I wonder how many of those tickets were never cashed.) The crowd was 35,000 that day, totally unthinkable for a day at the races up here now.

I went to the Belmont one year
In the clubhouse they have pictures of all the winners
    Secretariat had two pictures
    Him crossing the finish line
The other picture was next to it
    The rest of the field

So what the hell is going on with the horses at Churchill Downs? Worse surface than the Super Bowl?

I wish Churchill Downs had the same influence over TV as the boys at Augusta National so we wouldn't have to sit through a fucking 90 minute "pregame"

And Mike Tirico does a little throwaway bit about all the dead horses this weekend and how everybody is worried about safety, ironically right after Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s segment.

But now we're back to fancy hats! Mint juleps! Celebrities!

    Death of a racehorse, indeed.

Mattress Mack was a lot more palatable when he was more known for charity work than big sports wagers.

Patrick Mahomes very familiar with telling horses what to do, or at least in the case of his brother, a horse's ass.
