Georgia declines White House invite, says date offered 'not feasible'


The Georgia football team will not be going to the White House after declining an invitation, saying the date offered was “not feasible.”

The White House is hosting an event for NCAA championship teams on June 12, where it plans to host a number of winners from different sports and different divisions. That date was also offered to Georgia, the school said, but it has declined, per a statement released by the athletic department (the White House did talk to Georgia about some dates earlier this spring, including in March, although they were not official invitations):

“The University of Georgia first received on May 3 an invitation for the Bulldog football team to visit the White House on June 12. Unfortunately, the date suggested is not feasible given the student-athlete calendar and time of year. However, we are appreciative of the invitation and look forward to other opportunities for Georgia teams moving forward.”

This means the last college football champion to visit the White House remains the LSU football team after the 2019 season. The Alabama football team did not go after the 2020 season in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic protocols.

Georgia also did not go after winning the 2021 season championship, for what were publicly cited as COVID protocols. But after winning a second straight title, a bipartisan resolution was issued by political leaders in Georgia calling for the White House to invite the Bulldogs. The White House then released a statement on Feb. 22: “The President looks forward to welcoming the Georgia Bulldogs to the White House.”

Instead, that will not be happening. The White House engaged Georgia in discussions over a date early this spring, a source briefed on the scheduling talks said, but the two sides could not agree on a date, going back and forth until the May 3 invitation.

 

I think Georgia loses two or three games this year, the program seems like they are having to deal with everything but football. Things seemed a lot more buttoned up the last two years.

 

The more that they dig with Santos, the worse it is going to get with him. First of all, his campaign advisor flipped and she knows where the bodies are buried. Also, he’s both a pathological liar who is not that bright and he seems to have grifted both big and small. More will definitely come out.

George Santos hit with 13 criminal charges including wire fraud and money laundering


Scandal-plagued Rep. George Santos (R-NY) on Wednesday got slapped with 13 different criminal charges including counts of wire fraud and money laundering.

The New York Times reports that Santos surrendered himself to law enforcement officials on Wednesday morning and that he is expected to make an appearance in court, where he will be arraigned on seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, two counts of making false statements to Congress, and one count of theft of public funds.

According to New York Times reporter Rebecca Davis O’Brien, the charges all revolve around different schemes that prosecutors say Santos masterminded.

The first one involved using donor cash to funnel money into a limited liability corporation that he then used to buy designer goods for himself.

In a second scheme, Santos defrauded the New York state government by applying for assistance in that state during the COVID-19 pandemic even though he was employed by a Florida-based firm at the time.

And finally, prosecutors allege Santos misled Congress about his financial condition by littering his financial disclosure form with falsehoods.

Santos came under fire shortly after being elected last year when multiple reports revealed that he fabricated entire parts of his life story, including his academic career, his work history, and even his claims of Jewish heritage.

Speaking of ... Sarah Huckabee Sanders endorsed two candidates in a school board election earlier this week. Both are exactly the type of people you'd think she would endorse. Her endorsements were the first time - that I can remember - a sitting governor issued endorsements for non-partisan local school board elections. Both of her preferred candidates lost.

 

What does that have to do with Georgia??
