The pragmatist in me would argue a true "non-profit medium" cannot exist in a capitalist society. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

It still costs X amount of dollars to produce and distribute content, whether that's a podcast, independent radio, TV, online or print. That means you have to have a revenue source -- even if it's GoFundMe or anonymous donors or a Sugar Daddy -- in order to keep the lights on, not even determining if the employees are volunteers or freelance. So you still need gatekeepers who decide what is worthy of being "news" and a need to contine to generate funding by distributing your "news" to the widest general audience.

All you've done is change the jerseys. The game is still played by the rules of supply and demand.

However, not-for-profit could be the game-changer, if somebody could overcome the huge capital outlay it would take to start up such a project.

National Public Radio is a perfect example of the imperfectness of non-profit media.

There is the BBC model which will never fly today (or ever) in the U.S. where there is a charge per telly per year. Public broadcasting services (for now) get a government grant, but rely on husband-and-wife "foundations" mostly.

Maybe in the King Trump dynasty to come, there will be a point where King Eric decrees that government largesse be used for Running Man TV.

The Frontline Clarence Thomas doc reveals how similar he is to Trump. They are both corrupt, serial abusers who live privileged lives, but are extremely bitter that their positions in the political firmament are not worshiped by every damn person in the country.

Their unimpressive minds, pickled by years of only consuming right-wing broadcast media, have caused so much damage to our nation.

Those are all well and good, but who's going to be left to report on embezzlement of city funds in tiny Ballinger, Texas?

    And Michael Flynn.
