You know what, though? He's under 80 years old, and not slurring his words and speaking nonsensically, etc. That is definitely getting to be a very real factor, for both parties. And, he seems to get a lot of the things he wants accomplished done, Disney notwithstanding.

I'm very glad Disney is sticking it to him, but if DeSantis is in the race when the Republican nomination is up for grabs, I think he will beat Trump and get it.

I know times are much different, but I think her strategy is one mainstream media should strongly consider.

    That's just ahistorical.

The anti-communist hysteria didn't tamp down because of lack of media coverage. It ended because McCarthy took it too far, turning his committee on the US Army and people within Eisenhower's administration, and they fought back and discredited him. They compiled a dossier on Roy Cohen and David Schine and leaked things to turn public opinion against them. Then, they just started ignoring the subpoenas claiming executive privilege, and it worked. It made McCarthy impotent. It was a classic "punch the bully in the nose, and then all the others are no longer afraid of him" move. People had gone along with it because they were afraid of McCarthy. When someone effectively stood up to him, the other Senators who had kept silent turned against him and the Senate voted to condemn him.

Trump is newsworthy. It's not "journalism" to just ignore him because you've decided what people should see and not see. If he lies, report the reasons / evidence that what he is saying is a lie.

Trump won't fight back, though. He will encourage things. And a large number of people/voters are apparently too stupid and/or lazy to see him as he is -- even a lot of people we, perhaps, didn't used to think of as stupid and/or lazy, and who would, typically not necessarily have been seen as part of "his base."

He needs to be ignored. It seems the only way to lessen his influence.

I think the issue is that this is not the republican party of the Joe McCarthy era. It doesn't push back. It enables trump and shows no signs of changing.

Hell, McCarthy might have become president if he had the cowardly clowns in the current party.

McCarthy didn’t have enablers? Everyone went along with it until he went after the military. It was then it became a bridge too far. Hell, when even he knew he was going to look bad accusing someone, he’d come up with an excuse to leave and his cronies were left holding the bag.
