Aw, hell, Ragu, I wasn't in the room for this stuff, I'm just some guy posting on the internet. Obviously they made legal arrangements that were satisfactory with the court. IIRC Nauta is supposed to submit his representation next week.

That's nearly as surprising as foreign intelligence services buying commercially available satellite photos.

Bush I didn't have token challengers in 1988. Bob Dole ran a serious campaign, as did Pat Robertson, and -- while none proved to be a threat -- Jack Kemp, Pete DuPont and Al Haig were far from fringe candidates.

I'm not rushing Harris off the ticket for 2024. Chill.

I'm just, you know, asking questions. Like Republicans do.

RFK probably wouldn't have gotten the nomination had he lived. Only 15 states chose delegates by primary at that time, labor leaders detested him because of his run-ins with Jimmy Hoffa and Southern Democrats associated him with civil rights. And in the general election, he would have bled support from working-class whites who would have become Nixon Democrats long before they became Reagan Democrats. The county committee people, state-level party bosses and elected officials who picked the delegates in the 35 non-primary states were squarely in line with Humphrey. And the anti-war crowd was still squarely with McCarthy. Plus, LBJ absolutely hated Bobby and even if he had withdrawn from the race, he still had enough clout to put his thumb on the scale.

Here's a good article on the myth of RFK's inevitability:

Well, perhaps RFK could have kept his scion from becoming a nutjob if he’d lived.

Not anymore. They’ll whack Biden and Harris at the same time if they think it’ll get their klan full control.

I go back on YouTube and watch CBS and ABC coverage of the night RFK was shot on an occasional basis. (NBC probably didn't cover it live because it had The Tonight Show.)

Before the shooting, what passed for "pundits" of the day alongside Cronkite and Howard K. Smith were pretty much gushing that RFK was the guy with the momentum and that HHH's coronation in Chicago wasn't a given.
