Apropos of nothing, when I lived in Miami in the mid-90s, me and a group of friends had Saturday basketball game which which was held for a time in a park north of downtown Miami on the bay. One day, Xavier Suárez, then the mayor, was having a birthday party in the park for one of his kids and he and his son Francis asked if they could join us. Xavier was a decent ball player and a pretty good guy and Francis, who was maybe a high school senior, was incredibly unpleasant. Figure that 30 or so years later he would be a figure in GOP politics.

 

The MAGAs insist the Speaker of the House had the authority to refuse the President’s offer to deploy the National Guard.
The last time I looked, the Speaker was not the Commander in Chief.
One of them asked me if I learned that from Rachel Maddow or Joy Reid.
“The civics class you slept through,” I replied.

 

A lot of them also slept through the class when they explained how presidential succession works.
