    This is the key -- getting those Level 3/DCFC chargers in more remote locations, to allow EV drivers to take longer trips.

    The vast majority of EV chargers in our area are the Level 2 variety, which basically recharge your vehicle while you are at work or otherwise in a building for a good chunk of the day. They don't work for people traveling through.

    I was stunned that earlier there wasn't an industry effort to have a single standard for recharging.

    And already has cost more money than it's expected to save over its servicable lifetime. Thankfully my electric co-op is only toes deep in that mess. Georgia Power's customers are going to eat the majority of the overruns, which are already substantial and probably only going to get worse over time.

    I still believe nuclear power is our best option for long-term power generation. But that plant is lesson No. 1 on how not to do it efficiently.

    There are by some counts about 120,000 gas stations in the US. So, I'm thinking a conservative number of gas pumps is 600,000. Of course, not all are in use at once but when they are, it's for about 5 minutes max.
    I'm beginning to think the math for cross-country charging doesn't pan out for years and until batteries reach a range of what someone can be expected to drive in a day (say, a max of 900 miles) I think EV makers would be wise to position their car as a local mode of transportation.

    That's reasonable, and what they should always have been positioned as. Problem is, the entire industry is being pushed into a position where they are the only modes of transportation, for almost all applications. There's a good chance that within a decade, if not sooner, you won't be able to buy an ICE car because they won't make them anymore.
    Of course, that segues into a whole bunch of other dystopian topics (15-minute cities, CBDCs) that might best be saved for a rainy day.
