I honestly don't know what to think about the Rich Men song.
On first listen, I liked it. I tend to listen to music and tone of songs more than the actual lyrics.
By the second time around, it had taken off. I listened to the words and kind of took a step back, thinking this guy is trying to play up the Appalachian stereotype, which always draws a strong FU from me.
His response to being used as a pawn kind of gives me pause.
I'm not going to ride around listening to it because it isn't my kind of music, but as long as he is calling out both sides, I'm cool with it.

Actually, Derek Smalls would be an appropriate nickname for Drumpf.

It is my kind of music and I find the lyrics too off-putting. His voice is great and the song hits on a lot of populist themes that obviously resonate, but I just can't get over the stanza about welfare. And I know he's tried to clarify it, but the answer just doesn't make sense.

I am impressed he's jumped in to push back on the way conservatives are appropriating his work, especially since he is making a ton of money off their efforts to do so.

On the second listen that I referenced, I was in the same boat in thinking it was populist bullshit. Now, I think to the number of people who misinterpret This Land is Your Land and Born in the USA. I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt on his word until proven otherwise.

There’s only one way to interpret this:

I wish politicians would look out for miners
And not just minors on an island somewhere
Lord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothin' to eat
    And the obese milkin' welfare

    Well, God, if you're 5-foot-3 and you're 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds

The whining about the miners bit turned me off far more than the other parts.

It's hard to imagine having my life flash into sudden nationwide notoriety, examined and judged by the general public, my life turned completely upside down in a period of two weeks.

You hear about someone going viral, but wow.

We'd probably agree with on some things and argue like hell over others. Shrug.

Not sure how this reflects schism in that vile organization. Looks to me that they've been forced out for daring to call out Schlapp for fondling a man in one case and stealing a bunch of money in another.

I think we can leave definitive word on TFG's weight to an expert.
