That's a weird and cringeworthy pivot.

I was wondering about that last night. NBC has Big 10 football in primetime. They're simulcasting on Peacock. They got Fallout Boy to write them a theme song. They're doing all kinds of promo. And their second game is Charlotte-Maryland?

You'd like to think so. But that language is awfully nebulous. If that clause were effective in firing for cause, it would be invoked a lot more often and you'd see a lot more coaches getting whacked for cause than you actually see.

Michigan State calls a press conference and takes three questions, one of which is a softball.
Either take questions -- say, 10 -- or take none.

Why was the hearing scheduled for the convenient time frame of the Spartan football team's off week? And why nearly three months after receipt of the external investigation's report? It can't be too hard to say, "In order to give the coach and his attorneys time to prepare." Can it?

There was a lot of inaccurate reporting on this one. One report said Tucker had been suspended with pay. Another said he had been whacked immediately.

Among the clauses which would allow Sparty to void the contract would be if he were shown to have committed a crime in the course of his job performance, so the issue of whether he was continuing the conversation against Tracy's wishes could become relevant.

MSU should contend it has immediate right to summarily terminate his contract based strictly on his publicly acknowledged conduct. As one of the two most prominent public figures at a university which has paid out hundreds of millions of damages in sexual misconduct cases over the past decade, the conduct in and of itself blatantly constitutes “conduct which, in the University’s reasonable judgment, would tend to bring public disrespect, contempt or ridicule on the University.”

By dicking around since March, MSU has cost itself probably $5 million bucks in salary they shouldn't have had to pay him if they had shitcanned him the day they got the original allegations and found them credible.

Maybe they could sue for retroactive breach of contract. That could be fun.

One thing I think everybody agrees on is that something got whacked.
