Not since 1900 when the AL didn't exist as a major league, so yes, very much a "since this season was the first time you could even do it" kind of record.

I couldn’t remember if it was this season or a previous one. The fact that this is the first season in 100+ years makes it an even sillier stat.

It certainly dulls some from the original reaction, but you know, the fact remains that they avoided a sweep against every NL opponent making a quick visit, and that includes the Braves and Dodgers.

Second team to showdoor its coach in a jobalter
The only thing surprising about this is he wasn’t the first coach to be canned.

Cabrera puts on the first baseman's glove for the first time in two seasons after the seventh, and the first ball in the eighth is hit to him for the unassisted putout. Hinch and Miggy's children come out to remove him from the game to a standing ovation and hugs from the entire team. Thus ends an amazing career for the best Tiger player since Kaline.

Great player who will be remembered for all those championship seasons rather than this disappointing one. Good for him.

Crawford's is one of those great baseball lives from this moment ...

Hands down one of my favorite baseball stories. Such a great story arc.

Would love to see him go out like Buster Posey did, a Giants lifer.

But he does have four kids and his wife is a solid 6, which is fitting for a shortstop.

EDIT: Reading a story on the day, she's got a fifth warming up in the bullpen later this month.
