Sinking feeling most of the 20 holdouts will cave to trump/Jordan next time around. They think they can keep their "cred" with a protest vote then fall in line.

So, not content with allegedly using $19,000 of state money to fund her friends' trip to the Paris Air Show (and then covering it up by saying she bought a lectern from their consulting firm) and weakening the state's robust FOIA, it seems Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has climbed into bed with the Waltons and Johnny Morris (owner of Bass Pro Shops) to try to take the Buffalo National River out of the National Park Service. The highlights (of which may only concern me) ...

• SHS appointed her husband to chair the new Natural State Advisory Council, which is designed to bring together various stakeholders to promote outdoor recreation in the state. Steuart Walton is also on it.
• Mike Mills, owner of the Buffalo Outdoor Center, was put in charge of Arkansas Parks & Tourism, but left after six months and hasn't said a word.
• The Waltons have bought up more than 6,000 acres near the Buffalo River (which is fantastic, please come visit it).
• Johnny Morris bought the abandoned Dogpatch USA theme park, which is four miles from one of the most popular takeouts for canoeists and kayakers on the river. He stated plans to turn it into an eco-park similar to Dogwood Canyon Nature Park in Missouri.
• The Waltons put a survey in the field about changing the National River to a National Park Preserve. This sounds innocent enough - until you read the fine print about how it would allow the state government to take control the river instead of the National Park Service. It would also allow mining and drilling. So while Buffalo River lovers just finished a long fight to keep a massive hog farm from polluting the river, they might not be able to keep gas wells or lithium mines from going in if this happens.
