Now I'm reminded of Jackson Browne's "Lawyers in Love."

I don’t think he will pay the devil to replace him.

Great song. I’ll play it when I work out at the gym. It’s really fun to listen to on the treadmill.

Seems like Oates is a bigger problem than lawyers. I read articles in which Oates gave Hall the high hat. Said they are business partners, not musical partners and "The Kiss" was all him.

Daryl Hall files lawsuit and restraining order against bandmate John Oates

I know we all understand by now that bands are usually just business arrangements and everyone wears on everyone else after a certain period of time, but this one is tough to take for a few reasons. First, they always seemed so perfectly paired. One was tall, one was short. One was blonde, one was dark-haired. Their melodies were perfect. They always seemed so comfortable in their own skins. When their peak ended, they didn't try to make a current-sounding record. They just hung around and toured playing the hits until they were cool again and everyone realized slagging on them was a dick move. And they're doing this NOW at their ages? Hall is 77 and Oates is 75. They're going to spend a chunk of their remaining productive/creative days in court and basically ensuring the last bit of their legacy is a bitter one? It sucks, It's not a laugh.

Something about this makes me even sadder that Huey Lewis has lost his hearing for music (he has Meniere's). Those guys would tour forever if they could.

That's a good/bummer comp, right down to the acts being similarly comfortable in their own skins. Around 1991, Huey & Co. just said OK, the zeitgeist has moved on.*** We'll play 3,000-seat joints and have a blast.

***Hit Me Like A Hammer is a great fucking song

When I was 18 and started thinking I was a deeper thinker than I really was, I thought "Running on Empty" was the shit.

Fifteen or so years later and that one started hitting a lot differently.

Hall & Oates were my first music "crush" and my first concert in '83 during the H2O tour.

    Everything dies.

Saw H&O the last time they were through Toronto (pre-Covid) with Tears for Fears who were great. H&O put on a very professional show, they played everything you'd want to hear, Darryl's voice was terrific and their band (always one of their strengths) was outstanding.

I read John Oates's memoir, no shortage of ego on that dude.

By no stretch of any imagination is '70s Hall and Oates better than '80s Hall and Oates.

Next someone's gonna say Sinatra's voice is tinny.
