My point was that character issues only matter when it's a Democrat. They don't stick to Trump (or, really, other Republicans who hate the "right" people). In a national campaign beyond California, my fear is that character issues -- regardless of Newsom's strong performance as governor -- would be an issue. It's a double standard but it's real.
