FSU's funding source for the $572 million.

I read the complaint. FSU links newspaper articles saying the ACC mismanaged its affairs, primarily in its dealings with ESPN. For example FSU cited the fact the ACC signed a 20 year contract with an escalator clause of 4.5% a year rather than take contracts of shorter duration. FSU also believes the withdrawal penalties are outrageous.

Dare I ask why FSU did not file this suit at the time the contracts were signed and the withdrawal penalties agreed upon?

I believe that FSU's prior attempts to resolve this problem within the conference were that FSU has suggested that as the most popular football television draw they should get a larger cut than other members, who would then take less. Why should any other member school agree to a renegotiation? Said schools could reasonably believe that FSU would take the extra money and then if they were somehow admitted to a Power Two conference try to break the contract.

FSU to the court: "Protect us from our own stupid decisions!"

I was assured earlier this month the ACC was a mighty conference with few equals and no betters.

Put simply, this is all part of the negotiation process.

FSU is intent on maintaining its status as a top athletic department and competing in football. It knows it can’t fall $30-$40 million a year behind its peers to maintain that status (this wasn’t an issue 10 years ago when conference TV deals were all close in value per school).

It knows it can earn closer to that amount in the market. It knows the Big Ten and/or SEC would be interested in its membership as one of the few remaining Top Tier TV draws and football blue blood/new bloods — if it has all of its media rights.

To do that, it must exit the ACC and retain/regain its media rights. Both sides know FSU is leaving. The decision now is at what cost is acceptable to both parties. It won’t be $0. It won’t be $500 million.

The ACC shouldn't settle for a split down the middle. Gonna have to demand closer to $400 million than $300 million.

I guess we’ll see how they feel about their case. Venue decision will be among the first tipping points.

What are the odds that the college sports universe gets overturned by NIL and other litigation before this FSU-ACC flap gets anywhere close to its end point?

Let's be real here - colleges have already sold out - abandoned any sense of norms or values they once tried to "stand on" - And I know most universities depend on students from the Middle East to pay full price tuition just to make their budgets - so why not? Bring in Wazzu, Oregon State, UConn, Notre Dame, UMass and Army. Flip one more school and you have eight.

It’s going to be hilarious when FSU and becomes the new Nebraska in whatever league they join. This reeks of desperation from a school that has the second lowest endowment in the ACC and knows they can’t fundraise their way out of anything. Whatever. They’ve already ruined this sport so I don’t care what happens.

Look man I’ve already made my peace with where my school is heading in all of this. And being that I don’t see me coming up with a cure for cancer in the next year that I can sell for a trillion and kick a billion over to them to have the place rebranded BYM2U, I know it’s not changing. So I’ll watch but I don’t care. Kind of like I’ll put on the PGA Tour but it’s more for background music now, since the LIV drama has soured the whole experience.
